Twelve year old Dorothy Gale dreams of escaping the monotony of Kansas farm life for what lies over the rainbow. Following an accident with a twister, Dorothy finds herself in the magical land of Oz surrounded by a host of captivating characters including a heartless tin man, a brainless scarecrow and a cowardly lion. Together they follow the yellow brick road where Dorothy discovers there's no place like home and struggles to return to the life she once loathed.

Each year group leader Sheree, sweet Jeri Neal, overachiever Dinah, self-centered Lexie and chaotic Vernadette escape husbands, kids and jobs in order to provide each other with laughs and love in this hilarious and touching story about friendships that last forever.

In this gripping adaptation, newly discovered writings from The Diary of Anne Frank create a transcendently powerful first-hand account of the facts, fears and frustrations felt by Jewish populations under Nazi rule.

This powerful rock opera tells the story of Jesus Christ through a contemporary interpretation of parables taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew. When a group of ten young people struggles to find common ground, events such as the Baptism, the Last Supper and the Passion of Christ encourage them to shed differences and joyfully follow their leader to create a loving and supportive community. Modern music set to traditional
hymn lyrics completes this fascinating portrayal of the historical Jesus Christ.

A hilarious tale of overachievers' angst, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee relays a story of the unlikeliest of heroes. Six quirky kids in the throes of puberty overseen by three equally quirky adults enter a spelling competition, vying for the title of a lifetime. This charming group of outsiders learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

Nicknamed the "Buckless Yooper", Reuben is desperate to escape his past misfortune and make this hunting season count. Encountering mystical powers and other strange escapades round out this hysterical journey set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

A harshly conservative nun suspects a nurturing priest has abused a male student at St. Nicholas Church School in the Bronx. Believing the boy wasn't his first victim and fearing he won't be the last, Sister Aloysius will take any necessary measures to protect the children she believes are in danger, even if that means escaping the laws of the church and facing excommunication. Set in 1964, the play exposes the dangers of certainty as
well as the virtues of doubt.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas tells the story of two showbiz buddies in their quest to find work during the frightening economic difficulties of the Second World War. When the two find love along with a prosperous show in a picturesque Vermont inn, nostalgic scenery and images capture universal ideals and will leave you merry and bright while longing for Christmas snowfall.

The internationally acclaimed McLaren Memorial Comedy Playwrighting Competition was established in 1989, and since its inception over 1,700 new works have been submitted.  Midland Community Theatre will present the finalists in a Reader’s Theatre format and allow audience members to help us select the winner of this year’s competition.
